Description

A voyage through Odisha’s rich maritime heritage. 🛶

The “Boita Bandana” Pattachitra Saree brings alive the timeless story of Odisha’s seafaring tradition on a deep midnight-blue canvas.

At the heart of the artwork is a beautifully detailed Boita (traditional boat) sailing across the waters, surrounded by figures and symbols that evoke the spirit of Odisha’s ancient maritime journeys. The composition pays homage to the Sadhabas—Odisha’s historic seafaring traders who once sailed across distant seas carrying the culture, crafts and commerce of Kalinga to faraway lands.

Graceful figures carrying lamps and offerings accompany the journey, while lotus-filled waters, stylised foliage and traditional Pattachitra motifs enrich the narrative. The vibrant shades of orange, green, yellow, pink, purple and white create a striking contrast against the deep blue base.

The saree is finished with an intricate, colourful border inspired by traditional feather and floral forms, adding rhythm and movement to the entire composition.

Every element is carefully handpainted, making each saree a unique piece of wearable storytelling.
